AMAZON CLOSING WAREHOUSES

Amazon.com Inc., has decided to cut down the size of its massive delivery operation amid slowing sales growth, and has abandoned many existing and planned facilities around the country:  “MWPVL International Inc., which tracks Amazon’s real-estate footprint, estimates the company has either shuttered or killed plans to open 42 facilities totaling almost 25 million square feet of usable space. The company has delayed opening an additional 21 locations, totaling nearly 28 million square feet, according to MWPVL. LOGISTICS COMPANY BRINGING MORE JOBS TO VIRGINIA

The warehousing and transportation company A. Duie Pyle has opened three new centers in Virginia, including in Roanoke, Manassas and Richmonds. According to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the business could create up to 75 jobs in all. Chairman and CEO Peter Latta said in a statement: “We have been planning to add locations in the Commonwealth of Virginia for some time, and we are thrilled to gather here today with our customers, local officials and business leaders to commemorate our expansion.”  Read more…

LOGISTICS LEADS FRONTLINE INDUSTRY SALARIES

Amongst the 8 million jobs created by the frontline industry, “logistics & mobility offers the highest average monthly salary of Rs 26,484, the report, Frontline Index 2022, by HRMS firm Betterplace said.  The average monthly salary of frontline workers increased from Rs 21,664 in FY21 to Rs 22,800 in FY22.”  Also in the report, youth dominated the workforce and workers tended to stay in their hometowns and states.  Read more…
