Last year, during the height of the supply and transport challenges resulting from the pandemic, a survey concluded that 96% of truck drivers felt their job was appreciated, while this year that number has dipped to 67%. Amongst other surveyed questions, “83% of U.S. truck drivers say they experience daily challenges with recent increases in fuel prices, and almost three quarters (74%) say they are concerned about the pressure to work longer hours due to the driver shortage.” Read more…

WOMEN OWNED LP LOGISTICS TO CREATE NEW JOBS
Mackenzie & Paige Logistics, a women owned logistics company in Kentucky, will be opening their new headquarters in Florence in the near future. The company will commit $4 million into the new investment, “which is expected to create 210 jobs, including positions for at least 120 Kentucky residents.” Created in 2011, “M & P Logistics operates dry-van and refrigeration transportation, along with specialized options such as white glove deliviries, rail and port drayage (the transport of freight from a port or rail to a destination), and sprinter anf box truck expediting.” Read more…
AMAZON WAREHOUSING DISTRIBUTION COMING
Amazon announced this week a new service that will give sellers access to its enormous warehousing and distribution network. The service will be called Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD). and it will be pay as you go as sellers will be allowed to ship their inventory to what Amazon is calling “”new, purpose-built facilities for bulk inventory storage and automated distribution.” Read more…
AMERICAN EAGLE AND GAP BEGIN OFFERING LOGISTICS SERVICES
In response to supply chain logjams that have blighted delivery speeds across the nation, clothing retailers American Eagle and Gap are offering other companies, including their competitors, access to their distribution networks and warehouses. Though obstacles abound, including customer concerns over data privacy and a possible loss of competitive edge over their competitors by opening up their logistic resources, American Eagle and Gap believe this move is essential to bring back “accuracy and speed” to the supply chain sector. While working in the trucking industry can be “stressful and exhausting,” the salary is often excellent, especially if you work in long-haul routes or work with special loads. BRIDGESTONE HELPING CREATE MORE EFFICIENT COMMERCIAL TRUCKS
Bridgestone Americas announced a massive expansion and modernization of its Warren County, Tennessee Truck and Bus Radial Tire Plant located in Morrison. Bridgestone plans to invest $550 million dollars into the project which “will add 380 new jobs and expand the plant’s existing footprint by 850,000 square feet to support increased capacity and to accelerate the use of advanced technologies that support cleaner, safer and more efficient commercial truck and bus fleets.” Read more…
TRUCKER FIRED OVER POLITICAL POSTS
An owner of a contract company that has been running for almost 10 years and has employed almost 50 people has been forced to fire an employee after receiving several complaints from customers over political messaging on the worker’s truck. While “60 percent of workers say they believe that discussing politics at work is unacceptable… 57 percent of workers still admitted to talking about politics while on the job.” Read more…
GRANT AWARDED IN NORTH ILLINOIS COMMUNITY TO HELP WITH LOSS OF LOGISTIC JOBS
The latest round of grant funding from Northern Illinois Community Initiatives will help disadvantaged business owners, including those in the logistics sector. NICI, the nonprofit founded by natural gas distributor Nicor Gas, announced “three Impact Grant awards worth $100,000 each to nonprofit organizations serving Rockford, Harvey, south and west suburban Cook County and Will County. The grants, created to provide bridge funding for economic and workforce development, and community revitalization programs, builds upon NICI’s mission to attract investment, mobilize partners, and connect vital resources to underserved communities in Nicor Gas’ service areas.” Read more…
$20 MILLION GRANT AWARDED TO SUPPORT MAINE FARMERS AND FOOD PROCESSORS
More logistic jobs will be coming to Maine as Governor Janet Mills announced “nearly $20 million in grant awards through her Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan to help Maine farmers and food processors address infrastructure needs to expand in-state production and processing.” These funds will help farmers “increase the supply of Maine-grown food, meet growing demand, create and sustain jobs in one of Maine’s iconic heritage industries.” Read more…

Pet Supplies Plus, a leading, full-service pet retail company, plans to establish a new distribution center in Orangeburg County with a $53 million investment that will create 275 new jobs, including “highly desirable logistic jobs.” Created in 1988, “Pet Supplies Plus, a subsidiary of Franchise Group, Inc., is one of the largest pet retail franchises in the United States, offering customers a wide assortment of natural pet foods, goods and services.
