Overcapacity continues to have a negative effect on rates and trucking jobs as more drivers are being forced out of the industry before they can be saved by any future upcycle. According to the latest numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “more than 1,000 trucking jobs were eliminated from the economy in August. SMALL DECLINE IN TRUCK TRANSPORTATION JOBS FOR JUNE

There isn’t much to write home about in regards to Truck transportation jobs in June, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting jobs dropping by the smallest of increments: “Changes up or down are reported by the BLS in increments of 100 (unless they’re zero), and that is the change reported by the BLS for June: a decline of 100 jobs to 1,548,600 jobs.”  Read more…

A truck driver recruitment advertising agency, in a new survey, has found that 40% of trucker drivers are currently looking for new driving opportunities. In comparison, “that’s a nearly 7% increase compared to the previous fall survey conducted by Conversion Interactive Agency (CIA), in partnership with employee retention agency People. Data. 1300 LAYOFFS HIT LOGISTICS COMPANIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Layoffs across the freight and logistics industry continue “with companies in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan and Texas announcing job reductions and facility closures over the past two weeks.” One example is that of Warren, Michigian-based Universal Logistics, which is permanently closing two of its subsidiaries and laying off a total of 677 employees, according to notices recently filed with the state. LOGISTICS COMPANY DOOR MAKER CREATING 130 JOBS IN VIRGINIA


Tucker Door & Trim will invest $10 million to create its first logistics facility in Virginia. The company’s brand new manufacturing and assembly operation for fiberboard and fiberglass doors and windows will open THEIR doors in Henrico County by April 1, 2024: “The expansion, which will create 50 new jobs, will increase capacity and provide the company the ability to serve the northeastern market.” Read more…
