80 NEW LOGISTIC JOBS COMING TO CHARLOTTE

Odyssey Logistics has repositioned its global headquarters to southwest Charlotte, bringing with it over 80 new jobs. The move to Charlotte is part of Odyssey Logistics’ strategy to leverage the city’s growing talent pool and quality of life. The new headquarters will be in the Whitehall Corporate Center, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held.  Odyssey Chief Executive Officer Hans Stig Moller exclaims: “Our new home in Charlotte is a mutually beneficial development, both for our organization and for the North Carolina business community.”

TRUCK DRIVER JOB FEARS AMIDST TARIFF CONFUSION

The on-again, off-again tariff confusion is leading truckers to feel the impact of said debacle, especially truckers who work to transport vehicles and auto parts between the U.S. and Canada: “while there is still a steady flow of traffic across the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit and Canada, including plenty of 18-wheelers, truckers and businesses say uncertainty is still affecting things.”

LOGISTICS WORKFORCE SHORTAGES COULD CAUSE PEAK SEASON CHAOS

With logistics workforce shortages affecting nearly three quarters of all logistic companies, steps need to be taken to avoid customer disappointment during the approaching peak season. The performance of supply chain “is being undermined by an endemic lack of staff – with 37% of companies experiencing high workforce shortages. The biggest problems are in transportation operations, closely followed by warehouse operations, and the impacts are being felt throughout the supply chain, from financial performance to customer service.”

DSV GROWS INTO WORLD’S BIGGEST LOGISTICS FIRM

DSV is about to become the world’s biggest logistics firm after agreeing to buy Schenker, the logistics arm of German state rail operator Deutsche Bahn, for 14.3 billion euros ($15.85 billion). DSV, a logistics firm that had humble roots as a small enterprise of 10 truckers in 1976, has grown exponentially through “a string of successful acquisitions – some larger than the company itself – in a crowded logistics market.”

LOGISTIC CHAINS BRACE FOR US SUPPLY CHAINS STRESS

Resilience of supply chains will be tested as US imports are on course for volumes at a height not seen over the past two years. Even without work stoppages and multitudinous disruptions, logistics providers are preparing themselves for the worst. According to the Global Port Tracker, published by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates, “box traffic pouring into US ports will climb to its highest level in two years in the coming weeks, and the authors predict a seven-month run of monthly import volumes north of 2m teu, fuelled by consumer spending and retailers stocking up.” Read more

PGT Trucking Inc. recently recognized over 150 safe drivers during the company’s annual awards event, held at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. LOGISTICS GIANT IN ARIZONA TO LAY OFF MORE WORKERS

Swiss logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel Inc. is planning to lay off 227 Valley workers “after one of its customers, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, decided to insource roles at two Valley facilities.” Kuehne + Nagel informed the Arizona Department of Economic Development about the position separations in an April 22 Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter. The positions span a multitude of roles in contract logistics and the cutbacks are set to happen on July 31. Read more
