CPC Logistics drivers in Joliet, Ill., recently voted to unionize with Teamsters Local 179, as they seek “higher wages, improved benefits, and protection from at-will employment.” The group of 42 workers move products for large companies like John Deere, Procter & Gamble, and Walgreens.

On February 18, 2026, FreightWaves founder Craig Fuller announced that “ICE agents in sprinter vans are showing up at truck stops and rounding up undocumented drivers, collecting more than 30 in a single two-hour sweep at one location.” He goes on to warn shippers directly: “if your driver is arrested, your cargo will be stranded at an unknown location, unsecured, and likely unrecoverable.”
Freedom Drivers (FD), a California-based alliance of immigrant truck drivers, is demanding immediate action as thousands of commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) are set to expire March 6. Fateh Singh, an owner-operator and co-founder of Freedom Drivers, exclaims: “For an independent trucker, it’s devastating.. this isn’t just a job — it’s how I feed my family. If my CDL expires, the income stops immediately, but my truck payment and bills don’t. Losing my CDL can erase years of hard work overnight.”
